Why was Kashmir Shaivism Fellowship formed ?

The Kashmir Shaivism Fellowship was established informally in 1991 to give devotees and adherents of the teachings and practices of Kashmir Shaivism, as taught by the Shaivite Master Swami Lakshman Joo Raina of Kashmir, India, the opportunity to worship, study and serve the public as a group. Working together, the disciples began to prepare formal materials for worship and study, as well as to preserve the sacred teachings. The desciples also organized yearly sacramental ceremonies honoring Swami Lakshman Joo''s death anniversary and yearly celebrations commemorating his birthday. With time, the community realized it would be beneficial to the Fellowship and to the general public if it was more formally structured leading to official state and federal recognition. This would enable the Fellowship to establish a permanent place of worship in the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism and to promote the teachings on a broader scale.
